THE AVENGERS Review

Posted by Matija27 - May 3rd, 2012

Before I start with the review I have to do some self promotion. My cartoon for NATA tournament: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/594781

Ok, now with that out of the way, let's start the review of

THE AVENGERS

It is, in my opinion, the most entertaining super hero movie yet. Yeah, Dark Knight is awesome and X-Men First Class is pretty good, but the Avengers... wow. Just...WOW.
So we have Iron Man, Thor and Captain America trying to save the world. Oh, yeah, there is Hulk too.

Now, have you noticed that whenever you read about the Avengers they usually mention Iron Man, Thor and Captain leaving out the Hulk, especially when the movie was still in pre-production. That was bullshit.
And even Kevin Feige saying that there are no plans for Hulk sequels, that is bullshit too. But now, Avengers came to theaters, and guess what, EVERYBODY is talking about the Hulk, and rightfully so. It was just a matter of time when there will be a sequel to Incredible Hulk announced. Seriously, best character in the movie.

But other characters are great too. Tony Stark still has that charm, Captain America has proven to be a true leader of the team and Thor is...well...badass. However, I think Captain America and Thor are a bit underused, which is weird since Cap is the leader and Thor has bigger motivation to stop Loki then any of the other heroes do.

Speaking of Loki, he is the one you will probably enjoy the most. He has best scenes in this movie. Seriously, every scene with him is nothing short of awesome.

Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Mariah Hill and Agent Coulson, although pretty much just supporting characters, are great too. I was surprised how developed Black Widow character was. They did a great job with her, something Iron Man 2 failed at. And seeing Hawkeye in action was amazing, especially his action scenes in the final battle.

And let's talk about the final battle. So far Marvel movies have been criticized for having very anticlimactic final battles (except Incredible Hulk, although I liked Iron Man's final battle too), but what they did here is, without exegerating, the best action scene ever put on film. Expect some nerdgasams.

Now, I've heard that this movie is pretty funny and have some great dialog, actually scenes where they just talk are one of the best, but I wasn't expecting so many laugh out loud moments. Even Loki who is menacing and ready to kill anyone have some funny moments. I don't want to spoil anything, but the fight between Loki and the Hulk is to awesome to describe.

Should you see prequels to the Avengers? Well, yeah, that would help. You will care more about the characters if you see the prequels and there is one heavy scene that won't have the same impact on you if you haven't seen the other Marvel movies.

I could go on and on about this movie, but all you should know is that it is awesome, full of action sequences and superb acting. Comic or non-comic fan, you will enjoy it. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. Why 4.5? Because it ends and I wanted for this movie to last forever :P

Thanks for the review. The previews look like crap if you ask me, but I keep hearing how great the movie is so I'm totally going to check it out. I'm hoping that the previews are crap because this is the first move in history that doesn't use ALL the good moments in the trailers. I HATE that feeling I get when seeing a movie and I notice I've seen all the scenes shown in the preview. I then know that the movie is all down hill from there.

I'm also really curious to see how the hell a dude with a bow (who cannot fire it properly according to the internet) and some random chick with guns are going to be of any use to a super-power-suit guy, a god and a genetically modified monster-person. O_O

I liked the previews, but they showed nothing. There are so many great scenes that were not shown in the trailer or in the previews, especially ones with the Hulk.
And trust me, you will be surprised by Hawkeye and Black Widow :)

i saw the movie a few weeks ago at a midnight premier. i have a question though, who was the red dude at the end of the credits?

Honestly, I don't remember the red dude in the after credits scene. The only one I saw is Thanos. But, I did some research on that scene and it turns out the "red dude" is the Red Skull, enemy of Captain America. Still, I will have to see it again to be sure.

i watched this film last april 25, i did some research on who the "red dude"is, it is thanos planning some sh*t with the alien leader dude

I don't remember Thanos being red. I guess I got a wrong information about Red Skull being in the after credits scene :S

Planning on watching this movie on my birthday at the theaters. Wasn't sure after reading IGN's a bit more critical review and was pretty shocked at the numerous "likes" on RottenTomatoes, but now that there's a REAL audience member, not just some dumbass critic, talking about how this movie is perfect, that is why I'm super excited to see this next week. P.S. What are the prequels? I know Captain America: The First Avenger is one, but what about the others?

Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor, Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger are all prequels to The Avengers. Enjoy the movie and happy birthday :)

Yep, that's Joss Whedon in a nutshell. If you haven't seen any of his other stuff, you should.

I watched Buffy and Angel but I'm not a big fan. I should give Firefly a watch.
